Fossils
Objective: Students will identify characteristics of fossils and make connections between fossils and identifying components of a habitat
Materials:
1. Fossils Tell of Long Ago by Aliki
2. Playdoh
3. Shells, bones, anything that could be made into a fossil
4. Chart paper/butcher paper
5. Dig It worksheet
Events of Instruction:
1. Read Fossils Tell of Long Ago by Aliki and discuss what fossils are and why they are important.
2. Instruct each student of activity explaining that they will be making a fossil out of the object they are given and a peice of playdoh. After each student has made their fossils, students will be the scientist who found the fossil and tell the class what it is, where they think it came from, and why they think that.
3.List fossils made and responses on chart paper.
4. After class discussion, pass out fossil worksheet and have class complete.
Assessment: Assess students by observing conclusions made about their fossils as well as their fossil worksheet.
